Leroy Orval Hines

Leroy “Bing” Hines, age 84 of Ellsworth, died on Monday, January 25, 2021 at United Hospital in Saint Paul MN, from complications of the Covid-19 virus. Bing was born on Christmas day, December 25, 1936 in Ellsworth WI to parents Bernard F. and Geraldine (Dorwin) Hines. He grew up on the family farm near Ellsworth, and graduated from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1955. Leroy enlisted in the United States Army, and served his country as Private First Class, and also was part of the Army Security Agency while stationed in Alaska prior to its statehood. On June 18, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jeanette M. Aslakson. Their union in marriage was blessed with two children, Donald Leroy and Darla Jean, and over 59 years of love and devotion before Jeanette’s passing in January of 2020.

Bing worked for over 26 years as a truck driver with Hines Transfer, before starting BJ’s Taxidermy in Ellsworth back in 1985. An outdoorsman himself, he shot his biggest buck ever at age 83 during last year’s bow season. Bing loved creating wildlife mounts for his customers, especially those of white-tailed deer. He also felt truly blessed with the numerous friendships through his years of doing taxidermy. In his younger years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, and was one of the founding members of the Rush River Snowmobile Club. Bing’s favorite time was spent fishing with his family and friends at his cabin on Bone Lake. He always supported his grandsons in their sporting events, and was an avid fan of both the Green Bay Packers and Ellsworth Wrestling.

Bing is survived by his son, Donald Hines (Tammy Brenner); his daughter, Darla (Jim) Lau; grandsons, Tylar (Vicky) Hines, Trevin Hines, Justin Lau, and Logan Lau; step-great-grandsons, Blake Heilke, Peyton Heilke, and Owen Heilke; brother, Ronald (Ann) Hines; brother-in-law, Robert Kreye; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; his parents; and his sister, Bernadine Kreye.

With concern for the ongoing pandemic, a private family service will be held for Bing. His final place of rest will be the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Spooner, WI.

Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family. Condolences may be sent to The Family of Leroy “Bing” Hines, c/o O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Ellsworth WI 54011.

Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Funeral Home of Ellsworth. 715-273-4421
