Lynn Dean Geurkink passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Lynn was born in Baldwin, Wisconsin on December 30, 1952, to Dorothy (nee Deans) Conrad. He graduated from Saint Croix Central with the class of 1971. Throughout his high school career, Lynn earned 14 letters in 4 different sports: track, basketball, football, and baseball. In baseball Lynn was even scouted as a pitcher by minor league teams. Lynn married Kerry Reis in 1975 and adopted two children together. Lynn raised his family in River Falls, WI.

Lynn had a few different unique jobs throughout his lifetime, but he is best known for being the local main street mail carrier in River Falls. After 36 years of service, Lynn retired from USPS in 2015.

Lynn cherished his family and those close to him. He had the biggest heart and always put his family’s needs before his own, no matter the cost. You could always count on him for help with a project, catching a ride, having a laugh, or just having someone to talk to. His biggest joy in life was spending time with his two children (Adam, Katelyn) and their families. After retirement, he spent most of his days with his grandchildren (Maddox, Thea, Eddie, Lily).

Lynn had a great love for sports, especially Minnesota Twins baseball. If a game were on, you could always hear him coming down the road from a mile away with his radio blaring. He also enjoyed fantasy football league with his son and his friends, throwing draft night parties were his favorite. Lynn loved cooking for the boys. Lynn also loved hanging out and cooking meals for his son’s work crew. Lynn had a knack for making handmade wood signs, handmade wood dominos, and other gifts. Many family members and friends were blessed to receive them. He even sent a domino set to the Minnesota Twins organization for their yearly domino tournament. For many years, while working at the post office, Lynn organized and led the annual USPS food drive, where all donations go to the River Falls food shelf. Other activities Lynn enjoyed were grilling and cooking for his family, playing poker and euchre, gardening, golfing, baking, taking naps on the deck, and enjoying the sunshine. Lynn also was a firm believer in reading obituaries daily and keeping up with local and national news platforms.

Lynn will be remembered for his enormous heart, love for his family and friends, his wicked zingers, giant white beard, and for his notoriously messy car. He was a father to two children but became a second father figure to many and best known as “Pops.” For him, it did not matter who you were, he always tried to find the best in a person.

Lynn is survived by son Adam (Kenisha) Geurkink and daughter Katelyn (Edward) Moline. Four grandchildren Maddox and Dorothea Geurkink, Eddie, and Lily Moline. In addition, brothers Keith (Teresa) Geurkink, Craig (Nancy) Geurkink, Rich (Joan Forsythe) Geurkink, and sister Jean Geurkink (Janice Greene) and in-law Helen Van Derhyden; former wife, Kerry Reis; mother-in-law Dorothy Reis; in-laws Bill Reis, Kelly Brenna (Paul Gerbec), Kaycee (Tim) Brookshaw, Tom (Cydney) Reis, Joe (Maria) Reis, Jim Reis. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy Conrad and stepfather Wayne, his brother Larry Geurkink, nephew Daniel Gerbec and father-in-law Ronald Reis.

In remembrance of Lynn “Pops”, crack open a diet coke and turn on a Minnesota Twins game as loud as you can handle it.

A celebration of life will be Friday, October 4,2024 at Glen Park (361 W Park Street River Falls, WI 54022) from 2pm to ? A private family burial will take place later.

In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to express their condolences, donations to River Falls Food Shelf in memory of Lynn Geurkink are appreciated.

The family would like to thank the exemplary efforts of the EMS Crew and deputies who responded and dedicated their efforts to saving Lynn.

  1. Spent 2 months with Lynn in Europe back in 1972 when we had no fears. Lynn & Kerry arranged a blind date for myself and, now wife back in 1976. 47 years later and I can say you did a good job! We’ll miss you Lynn, RIP

  2. Lynn was our mail carrier …. and was somebody I felt I “knew” and knew something about. One thing I’ll always remember – he changed from long pants to shorts (and vice versa) ONCE a season. No matter the weather after that change was made …. what was done stayed done! We talked sometimes about our kids as they were similar age. Lynn was a good one! …. simple as that. Charlie Kolpin

  3. I am saddened to hear of Lynn’s (Arnold’s) passing. I’m so thankful our paths crossed a couple of years ago, after 50 years apart. Lynn was a friend and teammate in high school. I will always remember what he said to me at football practice in high school. He said ” I am the one guy you cannot beat on the football field”. We tangled many times and I will tell you he was one tough son-of-gun! I have so many great memories of Lynn!! Great guy & great teammate!! My deepest condolences to his family!
