Marcel Marquart

Marcel Dano Marquart, age 89 of Hudson, WI, formerly of Markesan, WI, passed away August 30, 2016 at the Presbyterian Homes – Woodland Hills in Hudson. Marcel was born December 31, 1926 on the family homestead in Markesan, WI, the son of Arthur and Hazel (Abendroth) Marquart. Marcel graduated from Markesan High School, the Class of 1944. After high school, Marcel attended the University of Wisconsin Madison taking an Agriculture Short Course. He was united in marriage on October 4, 1952 to Ardith Riesenweber, they shared 50 blessed years together. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Cheryl Ann and Dawn Marie.

Farming was Marcel’s life. Marcel farmed along side his father on the homestead and was a 3rd generation farmer. He was proud to be one of the first progressive farmers in the state of Wisconsin. He worked hard, and was a man of integrity and generous compassion. Marcel enjoyed the beauty of nature, was a keen observer of his surroundings, an avid bird watcher, and appreciated the peacefulness of nature walks.

Music was very important to Marcel; delighting in playing the trombone, singing duets with his wife, barbershop quartets and in the church choir. Music continues to be part of the legacy that he has left behind for his family. Marcel had a strong devotion of faith, and was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Markesan. In his later years, he was fond of cracking hickory nuts. He often gave away the nut meats and enjoyed snacking on them. Evenings with the family were often spent gathered around the TV with a bowl of popcorn. Above all, Marcel cherished his time with his family. He was a devoted husband to Ardith, a loving father, and proud grandfather.

Marcel will remain in the hearts of his daughters, Cheryl Ann (Art) Forester of Hudson and Dawn Marie (Randy Hanson) Marquart of Hudson; grandsons, Aaron (Emily) Steffen and Jordan (Lanae) Steffen; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Rosalie and Esther Steffen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardith; his parents, Arthur and Hazel Marquart; and brother, Neil Marquart.

A Memorial Gathering will take place Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM, with a 6:30 PM Celebration of Life Service at First Baptist Church, 309 Vine St., Hudson, with Pastor Scott Jorgenson officiating.  Interment and graveside service led by his Grandson, Pastor Aaron Steffen, will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8th at Kingston Cemetery in Kingston, WI. A reception will follow at the United Methodist Church in Markesan.
