Marcia Gefeke

Marcia Karen Gefeke, age 63, of New Richmond, Wisconsin, formerly Port Wing, Wisconsin, died on the evening of February 17, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marcia was born at home in El Sobrante, CA on June 17, 1948, to Edwin and Winifred (Krohn) Borton.  Shortly after her birth, her family moved to Toledo, OH where she grew up.  She graduated from Bowsher High School with the class of 1966.  In January of 1976, she was united in marriage to Norman Gefeke.  In 1980, Marcia, Norman and their family traveled the United States for a year.  In September of 1981 they settled in Port Wing, Wisconsin where they raised their 4 children, Audrey, John, Kerri and Beverly.  Marcia took on the roles of housewife and mother and served on the Port Wing Volunteer Fire Department with her family.  She was a member of the department from 1982 to 1997.  During that time she served as first assistant fire chief for a number of years and later served as chief.  Sadly, Norman passed away in 1995.  Marcia would remain in Port Wing until 2008, when she made her final move to New Richmond to be close to her children.

Marcia had many hobbies and activities.  From her early years on, she enjoyed playing and watching sports.  She played softball, was a bowler, excelled at billiards and was a big fan when it came to her children and grandchildren’s school sporting events.  Marcia spent time on the lakes and rivers fishing and even spent some time hunting in Michigan.  While indoors, Marcia was a football fan, cheering the Green Bay Packers and Ohio State Buckeyes.  She was also an avid video gamer.  She was always up for a game of cards with her family and loved putting puzzles together.

Marcia was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and “granny”.  She is survived by her; children, Audrey Werner of Wausau, WI, John (Becky) Gefeke of New Richmond, WI, Kerri (Kristin) Gefeke of Arlington Heights, IL and Beverly (Zach) Hansen of New Richmond, WI; grandchildren, Melisa, Kaden, Kole, Audren, Mikayla, Braeden, Elijah, Ethan, Olivia and Morgan; siblings, Grace Ebright, Ed (Jo) Borton, James (Lynn) Borton, Beverly (Tom) Updike and Thomas (Terri) Borton; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Marcia is preceded in death by her; parents, husband, Norman, and brother, John Borton.

A memorial gathering for Marcia will be held at 5pm on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home.  A time of visitation will be held from 2pm to 5pm.  Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory – Hudson, Wisconsin.  715.386.3725
