Margaret “Peg” M. Ste. Marie

Margaret Mary Ste. Marie, age 89, of Hayward, and former longtime resident of Hudson, died at Country Terrace on Tuesday, March 2nd. Peg (Stephens) Ste. Marie was born on September 14th, 1931 in St. Paul, MN the daughter of Ervan and Marion Stephens. She attended Nativity Of The Lord Grade School and Monroe High School, both in St. Paul. Peg was united in marriage to Richard Ste. Marie on June 28, 1952 at Nativity of Our Lord Church in St. Paul. They were blessed with 3 children, Ron, Ray, and Rita. The marriage ended in divorce, although they remained close friends through the years.

Peg enjoyed summer vacations traveling throughout the US and Canada in their RV. One of her favorite trips though, was her trip to Ireland with her sister Betty…and yes, they did kiss the Blarney Stone. (always a very proud Irish woman)

Peg’s favorite sport was hockey. She followed the Fighting Saints, then the North Stars, and then the MN Wild. You could hear her cheering from down the hall in her apartment. The smile on her face when at a MN Wild game was priceless. She was always cheering on her grandsons at their hockey and soccer games. She was a very proud, fun, and supportive grandma. She also enjoyed cheering on her Green Bay Packers in all of her Packer gear. Another big interest was music and dancing…she loved dancing. Even towards the end with her walker…she could really move to the music.

Surviving Peg are her children Ron (Tonya) Ste. Marie of Hayward, WI; Ray (Jean) Ste. Marie of Hudson, WI; and Rita (Gary) Johnson of New Richmond, WI; 6 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and her sister Elizabeth Skok of North Oaks, MN.

Preceding Peg in death were her parents Ervan and Marion, her first love Richard Ste. Marie, her brother Anthony Stephens, her nephew Michael Skok, and her brother-in-law Dr. Eugene Skok.

A memorial is planned for Sunday, March 28th, from 1:00-3:00 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI with the burial following at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Hudson, WI. The O’Connell Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
