Margaret Rochester

Margaret Ann Rochester, age 95, of Fairfield, Illinois, formerly of Hammond, WI, died on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

Margaret was born on January 25, 1925 to parents Everett & Clara (Rice) Gullixson in Hammond, WI, where she also grew up. After graduation, she moved to Washington D.C, where she worked as a secretary for the United States government during the war. Margaret loved to travel & visited most of the continental United States, but unfortunately never made it to Hawaii as she didn’t like to fly. During her life, Margaret lived in numerous places, including Seattle during the Worlds Fair in 1962, as well as Montana; Ontario, Canada; & New Richmond, WI. A big adventure in her life was being a cook on the barges of the Ohio River, which she did for many years. Although she never had any children of her own, she adored her nieces and nephews very much.

She is survived by her siblings, James (Ursula) Gullixson and Dorothy (Gene) McGuffin; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; and siblings, Eileen (Marshall) Peabody, Kenneth “Bud” (Jeanette) Gullixson, and Pauline (Ray) Fagnan.

Margaret will be laid to rest with her most recent husband who preceded her in death, Arthur Rochester, in the Hammond Cemetery at 1:00pm on Thursday, September 10, 2020.
