Margaret Ruby

Margaret Ellen (Scholz) Ruby of Hastings MN and formerly of Prescott WI, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2020, surrounded by her family, after a year and a half battle with cancer. She was 78.

Margaret was born on January 27, 1942 near Rib Lake WI to parents Emmanuel and Viola (Scheithauer) Scholz. Margaret attended schools in Rib Lake, and graduated from Rib Lake High School. She moved to Hastings in the mid 1960’s, where she raised her family and met so many lifelong friends.

Margaret loved the Hastings community, and many will remember her from her days as a cashier at Midtown Food Center, and County Market. Always one who was up for a good time, Margaret loved to dress up and go out, and she never left the house without her signature smile. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Margaret is survived by her children, Lisa Traynor, John Ruby, and Jennifer (Chuck) Hale; grandchildren, Christopher, Kortney, Kennedy, Madison, Afton, and Ava; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Ives; her brother, Ed (Karen) Scholz; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all whom she loved and adored. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kris; her parents; sister, Mary; brother, Clarence; and former husband, John “Jack” Ruby.

To honor Margaret’s wishes, a private family burial will be held. Her final place of rest will be the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery in Hastings MN. In lieu of any flowers, Margaret’s family asks that you donate blood, or consider a memorial contribution toward cancer research. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of Prescott, WI. 715-262-5404
