Margaret Marie Schultz, age 89, of Roberts and resident of the Heritage Care Center in Hammond, passed away at the Hudson Hospital on Wednesday night, March 30, 2011. She was born the daughter of Josef and Antoinette (Teply) Salus on March 14, 1922 in St. Paul, MN. She attended school in rural Lake Elmo and also in St. Paul. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to Reuben J.A. Schultz in Hastings, MN. Though surprising she had any free time raising their nine children, Margaret had several hobbies. She made quilts and afghans, enjoyed gardening both flowers and vegetables – which she would can and that she won several ribbons for at the county fair, and she loved to sing – especially as a member of the Happy Wanderers. Margaret also was a long time member of the Double T & Crossroads Homemakers Club and a volunteer at the Hammond nursing home. She was an avid fan of the SCC Panthers, especially football, and she always cheered for the Packers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; son, Roger; daughter, Molly; brothers, Roger Salus and Robert Somers. Margaret is survived by seven children: Richard (Lillian) Schultz, Diane (John) Washburn, Betty (Ron Boenish) Schultz, Mary Schultz, John (Diane) Schultz, Bill (Margo) Schultz, and Joe (Cindy) Schultz; 12 grandchildren: Brian (Kathy) Schultz, Amy (Pat) Drews, Steve (Theresa) Washburn, Don (Danielle) Washburn, Matt (Jenny) Washburn, Roger Lindus, Nathan Schultz, Sara (Ron) Roettger, Ali Schultz (Adam), Hannah Schultz (Matt), Beth Schultz (Dan), Hailey Schultz; 15 great-grandchildren: Brendon, Summer, Jake, Nick, Shelby, Makayla, Abby, Jason, Erick, Molly, Wes, Owen, Kylie, Savannah, and Avery; her brother, Ray Salus; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Funeral Service for Margaret will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 3rd at Roberts Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Delbert Permann officiating. Private burial will follow at the Warren Cemetery in Roberts. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, 715-386-3725.
