Marie E. James

Marie E. James of Prescott, age 102, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2020 at Norris Square Gables Skilled Nursing Facility in Cottage Grove, MN.
Marie was born October 13, 1917 in Prescott, Wisconsin to John and Blanche (Northup) Reichert and was a lifelong resident of Prescott.
After graduation Marie worked at Smead Manufacturing and, in 1942 at the age of 25, she and her girlfriends moved to San Diego, California for work at Consolidated Aircraft to support the war effort. After a few days in San Diego she met Andrew “Jimmy” James USMC. Before Jimmy was to be sent overseas to the South Pacific they married in Yuma, Arizona.
Returning home to Prescott, Marie was active in the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Marie also worked at the school cafeteria in the 1960’s and 1970’s.
She is survived by her son Jerry (Betsy), daughter Susan (Ken Donohue), brother Jerry (Colleen) Reichert and sister Arlene Russell. Grandchildren Brian James and Ann Marie (Anthoney) Lewis, great grandchildren Toney and Allie Lewis and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, grandson David James, her parents, sisters Doris (Donald) Becker, Marjorie (Lorenzo) Meacham and three brothers, Arthur, Wayne and Lynn (Arleda) and two nieces.
Special thanks to Norris Square, the Gables and Optage Hospice for the care Marie received over the last few years.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Marie James is being planned for a later date. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
