Marie Emma Loughney, age 96, of Hudson, WI, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. She was born on December 2, 1927 in Rice Lake, WI, to parents George and Ellen (Schmotter) Starr and graduated from Hudson High school. She married William Loughney on June 20, 1953 and together they raised a family on their cattle farm in Troy Township. Marie worked at Wisconsin Telephone Company before starting her family and becoming a full-time farmers wife and mother. Once her children were grown, she went back to work as a secretary for Midwest Medical in Afton.
Marie played the organ at St. Patrick Catholic Parish for 35 years where she played for many weddings and funerals. When she was younger, she enjoyed being a member of her bowling league and made many cherished memories on fishing trips with her husband William and her children. After retiring, Marie and William made countless trips to Treasure Island and Turtle Lake Casino.
Marie loved her family more than anything else and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite activity was bingo and she looked forward to it every week. She was also a talented knitter and crocheter, as well as a fantastic cook and baker.
Marie will remain in the hearts of her children, Mark (Debby) Loughney, Kathy (Jerry) Willemssen, John (Colleen) Loughney, and Anne (Dick) Wier; 9 grandchildren, William (Ashley), Brian (Heather), Robin (Mark), Heidi (Scott), Kyle (Jordan), Sean (Esther), Dan, Bob (Sami) and Mandy (Justin); 16 great-grandchildren, Wilson, Finley, Liam, Lilah, Payton, Max, Tyler, Sydney, Thomas, Nash, Bode, Lane, Hank, Beau, Levi, and Sawyer; Brother in law Mark (Phyllis) Loughney; Sister in laws, Bina (Jack) Wert, and Patty Loughney as well as many other beloved family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband William; parents George and Ellen; infant son William George; brother Gordon Starr, and sister Harriett Salmon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Parish in Hudson, WI. Visitation will be from 9-11a.m. with Mass starting at 11 a.m. Memorials are preferred to the family’s discretion.
