Marie Elizabeth Demuth

Marie Elizabeth Demuth, 99, of Spring Valley, formerly of Ellsworth, died June 24th at her home surrounded by her family. She was born May 24th, 1916 to Edwin and Emma (Radle) Nelson. Marie was the second of twelve children. On June 7, 1934, she was united in marriage to Bernard Demuth. The couple had eight children.
Marie was a lifelong member of St. Francis Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, the quilters group, and many other church activities. In 1950 Marie helped establish the hot lunch program at St. Francis School. Marie was an excellent seamstress and quilter. Throughout her life, she enjoyed gardening both in and out of doors. Marie was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ellsworth for sixty-nine years where she was a past president and had served in many other offices as well.
Marie is survived by her eight children, Yvonne DeGross, Una (Bob) Jenny, Mary Ann (Walter) Blodgett, Margaret Beaver, Betsy Fetzer, Peter (Cheryl), Michael (Fern), Rebecca (Jerry) Zelenka. Brothers: John and James Nelson; sisters Ellen Marek and Lorena Daley. Marie is further survived by thirty-four grandchildren, sixty-three great grandchildren thirty-seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie, her parents, three sisters and four brothers, four sons in law, and one great granddaughter.

The funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church, Ellsworth, WI at 10:00am, Monday, June 29, 2015. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth from 4:00 – 8:00PM on Sunday and for one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Francis Scholarship fund.
