Marie Geurkink (nee Nelson)

Marie Geurkink (Nee Nelson), age 88 of Woodville, died unexpectedly Thursday January 10, 2013 at her residence. Marie was born on April 24, 1924 in Woodville; the daughter of William and Eva (Nielson) Nelson. She was raised in rural Woodville where she attended Maple Grove Country School prior to graduating from Glenwood City High School. Early in life, she worked as a nurses aid for Parkview Nursing Home and as a secretary for the Viking Middle School. She was married to Kenneth Geurkink to which daughters Stephanie and Deborah were born. This union would later dissolve. She began working for Don Hagen at Citizen’s State Bank and worked as a teller for nearly twenty-five years. She would begin to date Vernon “Bud” Gossel. Although they were never married, they were soul mates in everyway. They enjoyed visiting craft shows and selling some of Bud’s woodworking. Marie herself was quite the salesperson. She sold everything from ‘soup to nuts’; including wigs, Tupperware, and of course her jewelry. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and a good card game. Her genuine honesty and demeanor will be missed by many.

Marie is survived by her daughters Stephanie (Kelvin Jackson) Rowlinson of Woodville, Deborah (Jack) Stein of Illinois, grandchildren Ezra (Amy), Ben, Will, Racheal, great grandchildren Kobe, Kiara, Jacob, Kilyn, her siblings Grace Albrecht of Woodville, Jean Kamm of Menomonie, Wally (Carolyn) Nelson of Baldwin, Jeanette (Jim) Bush of Glenwood City, sister-in-law Muriel Nelson of Chetek, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, significant other Bud Gossel, brother Lawrence Nelson, and brothers-in-law Willard Albrecht, Harold Fern, and Richard Kamm.

Funeral service will be 1:00PM Wednesday January 23 at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville with Pastor Andy Boe officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Pine Cemetery in Woodville. Visitation will be on Tuesday January 22 from 5PM to 7PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin as well as one hour prior to the service at church Wednesday. Memorials are preferred.
