Marilyn Sampson

Marilyn V. Sampson (nee: Ziegler), age 87, of Hudson, WI, formerly of Iowa, passed away on February 28, 2015 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson.

Marilyn was born on August 17, 1927 in Johnson County, Iowa to John and Verna (Beatty) Ziegler. On December 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Walter F. Sampson and their union would be blessed with four children: Steve, Sherry, Mike, and Eric.

She was a secretary for the Burlington Santa Fe Railroad, and for over 40 years was the church secretary at the Hudson United Methodist Church.

Marilyn was known for always being on the go and enjoyed attending community and local events like the Minnesota State Fair, Booster Days, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Pepper Fest, and many more. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage, and along with that, had an incredible gift of entertaining guests. She always made sure everyone was comfortable, with a drink in hand and food on their plate. Iowa was her home, and always referred to it as such, even though she had resided in Hudson for over 50 years. Marilyn also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends on the St. Croix River, relaxing in a chair watching the boats and cars drive by. She influenced much of the community with her time at Hudson United Methodist Church, and was always there to provide a helping hand to anyone in need.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; children: Sheryl Lynn, Steve, and Mike; sister, Jeannette Thomann; brother-in-law, Norbert Thomann; and nephew, John Thomann.

She is survived by her son, Eric; grandsons, John Sampson of St. Croix Falls, WI and Parker Sampson of Prescott, WI; and nephews: Randy, David, and Deb Thomann of Iowa.

A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, followed by a public prayer service and toast at 7:00 p.m. Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Hudson United Methodist Church, 1401 Laurel Ave., Hudson with a gathering one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Lone Tree Cemetery in Lone Tree, IA.
