Marion Elizabeth Linder, age 95, of River Falls, WI, formerly of Plum City, WI passed away peacefully on February 8, 2016 at the Lutheran Home in River Falls.
Marion was born on September 24, 1920 to William and Elizabeth (Sagstetter) Brimmer at their farm house just south of the Exile Store in rural Plum City. Growing up on the farm during the depression gave her an appreciation of hard work and taught her that family and friendships were the most important things in life. After graduating from high school Marion moved to St. Paul where she worked a variety of jobs. During World War II she was a “Rosie the Riveter” working in the shipyards in Portland, Oregon as a “burner” cutting doorways, portals, etc. in the steel hulls of the ships with a blow torch.
After returning from Portland, Marion married Glenn Linder in 1945 in Plum City where they farmed and raised their five children. Eventually both Glenn and Marion were employed by the University of Wisconsin, River Falls and moved to their country home next door to the Kinnickinnic Historical Church in 1970. Marion worked for a number of years as the laundress for the athletic department where she became “mother” to many and maintained those friendships until her death. Marion was always a country girl at heart and enjoyed working in her flower beds and garden. Raspberries and popcorn were two very popular items and became well known in the community.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Glenn; son, Steve; brothers, Carl, George and Donald Brimmer; sisters, Edna Hahn and Dorothy Meyer.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Linda (Tim) Murphy of Newport, MN; sons, Stan (Helen) of Custer, WI, Mitch (Jane) of Cottage Grove, MN, Marty (Dawn) of Columbus, OH; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gen Koester and Agnes (Gene) Jordan; brother, Bill (Joan) Brimmer.
