Marjorie Delores Smith

Marjorie Delores Smith, age 90, of Maiden Rock, passed away on July 18, 2019 at the Atrium Post Acute Care in Ellsworth, WI.

She was born March 22, 1929 in Red Wing, MN, to William and Esther (Enblom), Schmidt. “Margie” centered her life around faith, family, and teaching. After graduating Valedictorian from Maiden Rock High School, she attended River Falls Teacher’s College from 1947-1951. Later, she earned a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls.

She began her teaching career in Beloit, WI. Then, spent 38 years teaching in Red Wing MN, first at Colvill Elementary School, then Washington School, and retiring from Burnside Elementary in 1991. She attended Garrett Theological Seminary 1964-65. After “retirement,” she did substitute teaching in northern Wisconsin until 2001, with a total of 50 years spent in the classroom.

Marjorie loved music, playing the piano, harmonica, and the ukulele all by ear. She sang in the Ecumenical Choir for 9 years, and shared her faith and music as a youth camp counselor.

She married Gary Fosberg in 1988. They later divorced.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Anderson; her nieces, Jocelyn (Jerry) Rietcheck, and Christine Anderson of Lawrence, KS; and a nephew, Aaron Anderson of River Falls, WI. In addition, she leaves one great niece, Miriam; three great nephews, Jordan, Benjamin, and Jacob; and one great-great niece, Audrey.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Maiden Rock Methodist Church, 618 Cty Rd. S N., Maiden Rock.  In memory of Marjorie, memorials may be made to Burnside Elementary School, Special Education.
