Marlene Wahl

Marlene Ruth Wahl, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 12, 2018, at United Hospital in St. Paul. Marlene was born on March 15, 1940, at home near Glenwood City, WI, to parents. Alvin and Eva (Yunker) Rud. Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended school in Osceola, New Richmond, and Baldwin. This included elementary school at Oak Grove Country School in Baldwin. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1958. After high school she worked at Montgomery Ward in St. Paul until getting married.
On August 22, 1962, Marlene was united in marriage to Orville Louis Wahl. They had four daughters: Wanda, Brenda, Debra, and Lisa. They lived their entire married life on Orville’s home place where he was born. After their daughters were older, she went back to work. This included the Baldwin Nursing Home, Toro, GS Electric. In 1987 she started working at the Baldwin Hospital and retired from there in 2000.
Marlene and Orville enjoyed each other’s company and made many wonderful memories with their children and grandchildren.

Marlene had a strong love and sense of pride for her family. She looked forward to their frequent visits, which involved good food and lots of laughter. Marlene enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music, playing cards, quilting, and time at the lake. She volunteered weekly at Treasures in Baldwin and spent time with former co-workers.

Marlene will remain in the hearts of her children, Wanda (Adam) Alsleben, Brenda (Richard) Rhoten, Debra Ober, Lisa Hollern and special friend Bruce Blok; 12 lovely grandchildren, Brandon, Luke, and Jared Alsleben, Rachel, Alyssa, and Martina Rhoten, Dylan, Katelyn, and Logan Ober; SGT Mitchell, SGT Connor, and Brianna Hollern; siblings, Gladys, Viola, Rosie and Merlin; as well as other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, parents Alvin and Eva Rud, sister Betty Sahnow, and brother Ed (Sonny) Rud.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM on Saturday, March 17, at Peace Lutheran Church of Baldwin, followed by a Memorial Service for Marlene beginning at 11 AM. Lunch will be served at the church following the Memorial Service. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
