Marta Helen Friedrich, age 89 of Maiden Rock, WI, passed away peacefully at her home on August 7, 2022. She was born to Alfred and Else (Hirt) Mahytka on August 29, 1932 in Bad-Flinsberg, Germany. After Marta and Hans met and became engaged in Germany, she was sponsored by her Aunt and Uncle in Minneapolis and moved to the United States in 1953. Marta worked at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis prior to Hans moving to the United States and continued her career there until they started their family. Marta and Hans were united in Marriage on February 11, 1956, started their family and eventually made their home in Newport, MN. They proudly became United States Citizens in 1966.

In 1969, they purchased a farm in Maiden Rock, WI. Together, Hans, Marta and their children spent many hours developing and operating a successful dairy farm until retiring in 1997. Marta enjoyed taking care of the cattle, cooking, gardening, and tending to her beautiful flowers, but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a devoted member of Eidsvold Lutheran Church for most of her life.

Marta is survived by her children: Heidi (Tom) Sukowatey of Elmwood, WI, Kristine (Steve) Chezick of Ellsworth, WI, John (Dawn) Friedrich of Woodbury, MN, Kurt (Beth) Friedrich of Maiden Rock, WI; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is further survived by sisters, Hanni (Siegfried) Friedrich and Helga Mahytka; and many nieces and nephews, all of Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband Hans, parents, Alfred and Else Mahytka and three brothers.

A Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at O’Connell Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services: 130 North Grant Street, Ellsworth, WI 54011. There will be a private family funeral and burial at a later date.
