Martha M. Hector

Martha Mary Hector, age 95, of Hudson, passed away on May 26, 2017 at the Comforts of Home Assisted Living in Hudson

Martha was born in South Superior, WI on January 5, 1922 to parents, Edmund and Emma (Flyps) Van Hove. She graduated from Superior High School, and attended bookkeeping school. She spent her early career as a bookkeeper in Minneapolis. Martha was united in marriage to Delbert “Dell” Hector in 1955. The couple were blessed with two sons, Wayne and Dean, who joined Delbert’s three children from a previous marriage, Danny, Janet, and Alan.

The family made their home in Hudson, and the couple partnered with Martha’s sister Bertha Fenner and husband to operate Dibbos. Martha’s beloved husband Dell passed away in 1976. Martha continued working at Dibbos for over 50 years, retiring at the age of 87!

Martha’s greatest passion in life was her work and family. Rising at 5 am, Martha would walk two miles down to the restaurant. She would arrive to a line of regular customers waiting for their breakfast. You could hardly finish your meal without Martha telling you, “you can’t leave without a slice of pie”. Banana bread and banana cream pie – were always favorites – as bananas were never in short supply at Dibbos. She made her customers feel like family.

Martha loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, showing her love by canning, baking, and cooking. No one ever left hungry. Martha was quick with a nice warm laugh, a kind-hearted person, and always giving to others. She will be missed by many.

Martha is survived by her children, Wayne (Karen Schneider) Hector, Dean Hector, Danny (Sue) Hector, and Alan (Josette) Hector; grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Bailey, Emily Hector, Connie (Dan) Hill, Donny (Stacy) Hector, Kathleen (Mark) Walsh Blohm, Michael (Jennifer Johnson) Walsh, Jill (Christopher) O’Neil, and Phillip (Eva) Hector; numerous great-grand- children; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; step-daughter, Janet Walsh; her parents; and sister, Bertha Fenner.

The Hector family would like to extend their greatest thanks to her caregivers at Comforts of Home in Hudson for the exceptional care and love given to Martha as she resided there the last few years.

Memorial Service for Martha will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the O’Connell funeral home, visitation 1 hour prior. Interment at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Hudson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
