Martin Francis ‘Marty’ O’Connell, age 60, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and formerly of Hudson, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 after a courageous battle with depression. Born on March 18, 1963, in Hudson, Wisconsin; Marty was the son of Martin W. and Nancy L. (Rogers) O’Connell. Raised in Hudson, he graduated from high school in the class of 1981 and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Marty served as the Chief Informational Officer for Phillips 66 Credit Union.
For Marty, family was paramount. His children were the focal point of his life, and he took immense joy in witnessing their growth into adulthood. He cherished moments of fine dining with loved ones and savored the taste of aged whiskey. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. As someone adept with numbers, he found delight in tutoring Bubby in math. Marty eagerly anticipated quiet nights at home, indulging in movie marathons with his grandchildren, especially introducing Rhowan to his favorite films. He held dear memories of road trips with Ady, sharing stories while driving back and forth from Arkansas.
Marty’s sharp wit and well-timed one-liners endeared him to those around him. He had a gift for making strangers feel genuinely welcomed, and his authentic approach made everyone feel heard and loved.
Marty is survived by his beloved children, Heather (Christian Taylor) Mitchell, Lorelei Andrews, Victoria O’Connell, Martin ‘David’ O’Connell (Kayla), and William O’Connell; grandchildren Adyson, Rhowan, Christian ‘Bubby,’ Maximus, Alaina, and Ella; sister Colleen O’Connell; stepmother Patti O’Connell; brother-in-law Scott Snyder; and the mother of his children, Cynthia O’Connell. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life for Marty O’Connell will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, February 25th, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 4 PM before the service at O’Connell’s. Burial will take place in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Hudson. Memorials will be dedicated to suicide prevention in Marty’s memory.
My deepest sympathies to all of Marty’s family. So many fond memories of Marty. Such a great sense of humor and so many good times shared. God bless Marty and give him peace. Love, Scott Snyder
I worked with Marty several years ago. Since I was an artsy musician, he was always very kind and willing to help me with computer problems and he never ridiculed me or laughed at me … too much. At least, he didn’t do it in my office- although many times I heard hysterical laughter all the way down the hall. We often discussed Warp Core Dynamics and whether or not reversing the polarity on the magnetic field coils was actually effective. Marty was a truly unique individual and his personality and quick wit will be missed!
I am so very sorry to hear of Marty’s passing and to learn of his intense and painful battle with depression. My deepest sympathy to Marty’s children, grandchildren, and to all who loved him. May my cousin rest in peace. Love, Katie Glockner Seymour, Orlando
Marty,
How we ever managed to graduate high school on time with all the joking around we did I’ll never understand! But it was a joy having you as a childhood friend, a fellow fan of great music, a trusted partner in faith, and someone whose memories still make me smile.
I’m sorry you left this life too soon. But I know we will meet again and have some good laughs.
God bless Marty and his beautiful family that will carry on his legacy. He will be missed. We send all of you our love. The Glockner Gallagher Family
My prayers are with you all. 🤍 I remember your Dad from years ago being a generous loving man. He was always kind and had encouraging words towards me. My heart is so saddened but I know the memory of the loving life he lived remains. May the comfort of the Lord be with each of you.
Sending love and hugs,
Renetta
Marty touched my life. He made me feel I had his full attention, and I loved teasing him by touching things in his office and telling him I was wiping germs all over his desk…knowing how he hated germs! We laughed together at times and shed some tears together. I will never forgot what a source of comfort he was to me when my Wayne was diagnosed with cancer. He will be missed by me! May God’s presence comfort all the family.
