Mary B. ‘Bernie’ Luebke

Mary Bernadine “Bernie” Luebke, age 93,of Hudson, WI passed away on February 12, 2017 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson, WI.

Bernie was born to John and Edna (Roach) McDonald on October 15, 1923 in Fond Du Lac, Wi.  Their family moved to Hudson when her father bought the bakery in town just as she was entering high school.  Bernie  and her “Irish Twin” sister, Joan were Hudson high School’s first Majorettes.  Bernie went on to play the drums in the marching band.  She graduated from Hudson High School in the class of 1942.  It was on August 5, 1946, a few short years later, and,  after the end of the war, that she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kenneth A Luebke. That marriage was blessed with two children, Gregory and Deborah.

Before her marriage, Bernie worked for Webster Real Estate and St Paul Fire & Marine.  After marriage she was primarily a homemaker, but did volunteer work at St Patrick School  and Church, and later worked at Olson’s Department Store.

Bernie had a strong Catholic faith and was a dedicated parishioner of  St Patrick’s Catholic Church, holding membership in many church groups including the PCCW. She was also the Chair of the Family Life committee for the deanery.  She and her husband were on the building committee for the church. She sang with the Celebration choir from its inception and then with the Praise Choir when the former was disbanded.  Her passion and talent for singing earned her the director role of the Hope Choir, singing at funerals and in the last several years at the Senior Homes in Hudson.

She was an avid volunteer, giving over 2000 hours to the Hudson Medical Center and the Christian Community home, all without having a driver’s license.  She had over 20 years service to Hudson as an election inspector.

Bernie had a knack for knitting, sewing, crochet and needlepoint.  She also enjoyed painting and drawing.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, whom she loved and who loved her so much.

She is survived by her children, Gregory (Kathy) Luebke and Deborah (Tom) Offner; nephew, Jeff St Ores; brother-in-law, Darrel Luebke and many Luebke & Krueger nieces and nephews, and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken, sister, Joan  St Ores; sisters-in-law, Gretchen Krueger, Dorothy and Kitty Luebke; brothers-in-law, Ray St Ores, Roger Luebke and Bob Krueger, and nephew, Kent Luebke and many beloved friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17 2017 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1500 Vine Street, Hudson, with a visitation held one hour prior to the Mass at church.  Internment at St Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials preferred to the family.
