Mary D. Larson

Mary D. Larson, age 84, of Hudson, WI, passed away on August 5, 2015 at the Kinnic Long Term Care Facility in River Falls, WI, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on November 6, 1930 in Jim Falls, WI to Joseph and Laura (Kennedy) Plante. She attended grade school in Chippewa Falls, WI, and graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Eau Claire, WI.

On November 28, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Eau Claire, WI, she married Roderick Larson, a union that would be blessed with three children: Steve, Paul, and Jolene. Their family moved to Hudson and Mary began a career, first at Olson’s Department Stores, and finally at Mickelsen’s Drug Store as a clerk in the pharmacy. Rod and Mary moved to Texas when 3M relocated Roderick for work. After Roderick’s passing in 1999, Mary moved back to Hudson to be closer to her family and grandkids.

Along with her love for spending time with her husband and family, Mary enjoyed spending time on a boat in the summer months water skiing, and in the winter, downhill skiing. She was also a talented roller skater, skating frequently at Paradise Gardens Roller Rink, that her parents owned. Mary was an dedicated patron of Hallmark, as she enjoyed finding the perfect greeting cards for people. She always loved finding a good scented candle, and never missed a party she was invited to. If you knew Mary, you knew never to call when the 5:30 evening CBS News with Scott Pelley was on. Her passion for the news sparked her love of a good political debate, as she was always up on the latest current events. Mary adored sharing the tv show, Castle, with her granddaughter over the phone.

She is survived by her children: Steve (Katherine) Larson of North Richland Hills, TX, Paul (LuAnne) Larson of Hudson, WI, and Jolene (Tim) Penman of Hudson, WI; grandchildren: Eric, Ben, Andy (Lindsay), Bethany, Rob (Kimberly), Heather, and Holly; great-grandchildren: Kaylie, Abel, Colin, and Gavin. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roderick; and siblings: Lawrence Plante, Raymond (Mary) Plante, and Bill Plante.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015 at the O’Connell Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, with a 7 p.m. prayer service to conclude the evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson with a visitation one half hour prior to Mass at church.
