Mary Ellen (Joss) Dillon, previously Mary Ellen Muller, passed away on April 18, 2023 after a long, fabulous life of 94 very full years.

She was born in Chicago on November 27, 1928 to Theodore and Hazel Joss. She had one sibling, Ruth, who was her best friend. From the early teens our mom loved parties and dancing. Although she knew him from school, her romance with our dad Julius “Mick” Muller really blossomed during dance nights at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. They married June 12, 1948 at St. Aloysius Church. Together they had 8 children, eventually moving to California in the mid 70’s before settling into retirement and moving to Hammond, WI on her daughter and son-in-law’s farm. It was during this time that our dad passed away.

Our mom met her second husband Howard Dillon on a trip to Ireland and lived with him in the San Diego area until he passed away. She lived on her own there for several years, returning to Wisconsin and eventually moving into Red Cedar Canyon. Our mom loved life and loved people. She especially loved Jesus and her last years were spent in several weekly Bible studies and hosting one in her apartment; even at 94 years old and on hospice she would visit Memory Care and “bring Jesus” to the residents.

After a fall that led to a fracture, she spent her final weeks at the home of her daughter and Ron where she was lovingly cared for by them and her granddaughters Lisa and Nicole.

Mary Ellen was mother and grandmother to: Michael Muller (deceased) and his children Amanda Muller and Duon Muller; Jeannie (Pete) DeGroot and their children Michael DeGroot, Kristen Van Waardhuizen, AJ (Lindsay) DeGroot, Nathan (Elizabeth) DeGroot; Cyndi Herak (deceased) and her children Alecia Doina (deceased), Christopher Herak, Cassondra Herak; Robert Muller (deceased) and his step son Josh Ponder and daughter Lelanie Muller; James (Woranuch) Muller and their children Alysa Muller, Julius Muller; Thomas (Kim) Muller and their children Aaron Muller, Kelly Muller, Cameron Muller; Margaret (Ron) Scott and their children Lisa (Joe) Foster, Nicole (Sean) Rowan, Zachary Scott; Patrick Muller and his children Julia Muller and Patrick Joss Muller. She was GiGi to 30 great children and great-great-grandmother to 1.

Although she had many great friends throughout her life, she shared a special relationship with her niece Judy Frohlich. And she was especially close to her two “besties” Myrna and Ginny.

We are comforted knowing that because of the Resurrection we will see her again in glory.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday April 21, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hudson, WI. Visitation will be from 10-11am will a Mass at 11am. Her service will be live streamed on St. Patrick’s Facebook page. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Autism Support Group of St Croix Valley (ASGSCV). PO Box 165 New Richmond, WI 54017.

  1. Our great God was gracious to our family by giving us 94 and 1/2 years with our beautiful mother. She always did so much for us, but I always told her the greatest thing she ever did was introduce me to Jesus. Love you mom, and I’ll see you in glory
