Mary May Anderson, age 91, of Red Wing, formerly of Hager City, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at the Red Wing Health Center, Red Wing, Minnesota.Mary was born on July 12, 1922, in the township of Trenton, Pierce County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gustave and Ethel (Porter) Anderson. She was born and lived all her life in the house her father built as a wedding gift for her mother in 1906.Mary was a life-long member of Svea Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide. She taught Sunday School for 40 years and played organ and piano. Mary had a love of music all of her life and shared that love with everyone. In later years she sang at nursing homes, often accompanying herself on her guitar. Mary sold Avon door-to-door for many years and enjoyed getting to know her customers.Mary was proud of her Swedish heritage; she had visited her relatives in Sweden and maintained those relationships through the years. She also sang with the Red Wing Swedish Singers.Friends remember her as “Little Mary,” as she never grew to five feet tall. Her love of children included memories of them measuring themselves against her, and their excitement as they grew taller!Mary’s parents and brothers Edwin and Harold preceded her in death.
