Matthew J. Baumgartner

Matthew James Baumgartner, age 33 of Somerset WI and formerly of Hudson, died on December 7, 2015 at his home after a brief illness. Matt was born February 13, 1982 in Eau Claire WI to parents David James Baumgartner and Vickie Jean (Creaser) Girard. Matt attended Elk Mound High School, and graduated with the Class of 2000. He went on to earn his Bachelors degree in Business Finance from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. Matt worked for 8 years as a Chartered Financial Consultant at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Hudson, which is where he would meet his future wife Leah. The two would be united in marriage this past September in White Bear Lake MN.

In 2012, Matt went on to become the Vice President of Land Management for Black Bear Resources. His character and expertise made him a true success in his field. Outside of work, Matt enjoyed riding his Harley and golfing. Matt was a known tinkerer who loved to fix things, from working on his ’51 Chevy, to the Super Sport race car he had as a younger man. Matt was a devoted husband, a loyal friend and brother, a provider, and a protector. Matt looked out for those he loved. Matt lived his life with a generous heart. He gave of himself to matters he found important, like the annual Lone Survivor Golf Tournament, or touching the lives of others by paying it forward in meaningful ways. Matt had a strong sense for always finding a way to do the right thing. Matt will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Matt is survived by his loving bride, Leah; his mother, Vickie (John) Girard; his father, David (Michele) Baumgartner; siblings, Brian Baumgartner, Michael (Craig Kohn) Baumgartner, Nicole Baumgartner, Tessa Girard, and Madeline Baumgartner; nephews, Tegan and Ezra; maternal grandparents, Bob (Jewel) Creaser; parents-in-law, Neil (Diane) Dietsche; siblings-in-law, Heather (fiancé David Janikowski) Dietsche, Chad (Heather) Dietsche, and Sara (Niles) Taylor; niece and nephews, Gavin, Jack and Ava; grandmother-in-law, Marjorie Daniek; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and great friends. Matt was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Jim (Janice) Baumgartner; grandfather-in-law, Frank Daniek; and grandparents-in-law, Fred (Lucille) Dietsche.

To honor the life of Matthew Baumgartner, a gathering of family and friends be held from 11:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Kilkarney Hills Golf Club, 163 Radio Road in River Falls, WI, with a Service of Remembrance beginning at 12:00 noon. A time of fellowship will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI. 715-386-3725
