Maylon Eugene “Sliver” Hartfiel, age 81, of Hudson, WI, passed away on February 11, 2017 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond, WI.
Sliver was born on March 10, 1935 in Minneapolis, MN to Loretta (Dearborn) Hartfiel. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he received his nickname “Sliver” because of his thin frame.
Sliver proudly dedicated 25 years to Cemstone as a driver. He also worked as a gravedigger, digging at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery and Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, retiring at the age of 55. After his retirement, he delivered flowers for Rose Floral in Stillwater for 20 years, and was later joined by his wife, DeEtte, delivering flowers as a team. Aside from his career, Sliver was an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time at the Mallalieu Inn in North Hudson, WI, going up to his cabin near Danbury, WI, and every year he looked forward to the annual reunion with his Army comrades. He also was very fond of his Lhasa Apso dog, Sadie.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, DeEtte Hartfiel (Johnson); niece, Kim Kay (Jamie Smith); cousin, Sandra Olufson (Crain); and loving dog, Sadie.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m at the funeral home.
