Michael J. Mikla

Michael J. ”Mike”” Mikla, age 64 of Hammond WI, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, February 5, 2016. Mike was born March 7, 1951 in New Richmond, WI to parents Ben and Eva (nee Obermueller) Mikla. Mike was raised in Glenwood City, and graduated with the Class of 1969 from Glenwood City High School. Mike served honorably in the Air Force during Vietnam. After his service to our country, he went on to earn his Associates Degree from District One Technical Institute in Applied Science Civil Structural Technology. Mike would be united in marriage to Rebecca Olson on March 4, 1972 at the Little Falls Lutheran Church in rural Amery. Their union in marriage would be blessed with two children, and over 43 years of love and devotion to each other.

Mike worked for many years as a carpenter with Derrick Builders in New Richmond. Outside of work, Mike enjoyed deer hunting, woodworking, and restoring his old street rods. Mike was known to many in the community as a member of the American Legion. Mike was also an active grandparent, who enjoyed fishing with his grandkids, attending their sporting events, and delighting in his title of grandpa. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Becky; daughter, Wendy (Mike) Casey; son, Jeff (Katie) Mikla; grandchildren, Madalyn and Thomas Casey, and Eva and Ellie Mikla; siblings, John (Mary) Mikla, Gerald (Darlene) Mikla, and Marlys (Ralph) Ossman; sister-in-law, Cherie Mikla; siblings-in-law, Bud (Pat) Olson, Karolyn (Mike) Conlow, Barbara (Lonnie) Bendixen, Craig Olson, and Chuck Olson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Eva; his sister and brother-in-law, Kathy (Pat) Ross; his brother, Marcus Mikla; and his parents-in-law, Curtiss and (Florence) Olson.

Mass of Christian Burial for Mike Mikla will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1265 Ridgeway Street in Hammond, WI with Fr. Jerry Harris officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church, and also from 4:00-7:00pm on Monday evening at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street in Baldwin, WI. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family, or to the donors choice. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory of Baldwin, WI. 715-684-3434
