Michael John Schullo, 60, of Phoenix, AZ, (formerly of Hudson, WI), passed away on October 7, 2017 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mike was born on November 28, 1956 in Hudson, the son of George & Peg (O’Connell) Schullo. He and his twin brother Pat were the 13th set of twins born at Hudson Hospital. Mike attended St. Patrick’s School and graduated from Hudson High School in 1975. As a child, Mike had a creative/artistic talent, and was a good baseball player and golfer. In his younger years Mike worked at Tom Thumb Grocery, Clifton Hollow Golf Course, and Nor-Lake. He also served as an EMT in Hudson for several years.
Mike then moved to Phoenix in the early 80’s and that is where he established his professional career as an American Family Insurance Agent. Another side of Mike that blossomed in Phoenix was that of a stand-up comedian. In recent years he enjoyed doing shows at the comedy clubs in the Phoenix area. You could never know for sure if you were going to be the topic of his comedy routine, but Mike seemed to have a knack for finding the humor in situations and making others laugh. Mike was respected as an insurance agent and quite a people person. After he sold his agency due to his declining health, Mike mentioned many times about how he missed being around and talking with friends and acquaintances on a daily basis. Mike had a unique sense of humor and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Mike is survived by his children, Michael & Allison, and grandson Bentley, all of Phoenix. He is further survived by his two sisters, Mary Jo Romportl (Tom) of Hartland, WI, Lori Schullo of Woodstock, IL, his twin brother Patrick (Marilyn) of Hudson, WI, and Diane Schullo, the mother of his children. Mike is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service for Mike was held on October 21st in Phoenix. This date coincided with the day his mother passed away four years ago.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Hudson on Saturday, November 11, 2017 beginning at 1:00 and concluding with a prayer service at 4:00. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family in sharing the many stories that made Mike the great person he was!
The Schullo family extends a special thank you to all who helped Mike in any way to make his life with cancer and the leg amputation easier for him. We are so appreciative and grateful for the time we had with him!
