Mike Madden

James Michael “Mike” Madden, age 83 of Hudson WI and Moorcroft WY, died on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Hudson WI. Mike was born January 15, 1932 in Glendale WI to parents H. Leo and Josephine (Zappa) Madden. Mike graduated high school in Elroy, WI. Mike enlisted and served his country in the United States Navy until being honorably discharged in 1954. During his time in the Navy, Mike served aboard the U.S.S. Midway, and received the National Defense Service Medal.

Mike was united in marriage to Lillian Ackerman Miller, who was the mother of Rae Ann, Sue, and Pam Miller. Though they were later divorced, there were three children born to this union: Theresa McCormick, James Jr. “Jim” Madden, and Jeff “Geno” Madden. Mike was later married to Jean Kanode on April 14, 1978. In March of 1996, Mike and Jean moved to Moorcroft, Wyoming. Mike returned to Hudson to reside at Pine Ridge in December of 2013, after Jean’s passing.

Mike worked in the railroad car shops of North Hudson, attended Barber School and worked as a barber. Later he worked locally as a carpenter for Chester Dahm and Benoy & Wicklander Construction, and also worked for 25 years at 3M in the Maintenance Dept. Mike was always working on something for somebody, either building or repairing. Mike also enjoyed showing his 1939 Chevrolet Coupe, which he had rebuilt. Mike was proud of his 38 years of sobriety. His humor and warm personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Jean C. Madden; his parents, H. “Leo” and Josephine Madden; brothers, John G. Madden, Hugh Madden, and Charles “Pat” Madden; and grandson Jesse McCormick. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa McCormick of Roberts, sons, James Jr. “Jim” (Kathy Nitschke) of Beaver Dam, and Jeff “Geno” (Lori) Madden of Hudson; step-son, Steven (Martha) Stinson; grandchildren, Jason (Fay) McCormick, Cole Madden, and Claire Madden; brother, Jerry Madden; sisters-in-law, Francis Madden, Anna Mae Madden, Blanche (Nick) Conom, and Betty Kanode; brother-in-law, Jerry (Sharon) Kanode; as well as an uncle, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mike Madden will be held locally from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, March 4th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 11th Street S. in Hudson, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mike Madden will be held in Moorcroft, Wyoming at 10:00am on Saturday, March 7th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 212 North Belle Fourche Avenue in Moorcroft, WY 82721, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at the Moorcroft Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family, or the donors choosing.
