Mildred Marie Johnson (nee: LePage), widow of Frederic Johnson, age 94, of Hudson, died February 4, 2011 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson. Mildred was born on January 11th, 1917, to Joseph & Emma (Lindall) LePage in Shafer, Minnesota. She attended country grade school in Franconia Township, Minnesota and graduated high school from St. Croix Falls. She attended River Falls Teachers College (now UWRF) where she earned her teaching degree in 1939. Mildred had many years of teaching math under her when she retired in 1980. Through her career she taught in Eleva, WI, Cadott, WI, Glenwood City, WI and Hammond, WI.
On September 28th, 1940, Mildred married Fred Johnson. The marriage took place in Northwood, Iowa. The marriage would be blessed by 3 children; Joel, Melanie & Valerie. Fred passed in 1987 and Mildred continued to live in Hudson close to her family and friends.
Beyond work, Mildred was very active. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed crocheting. She was a member of the church quilting group. She volunteered for different events with her church and was also very active with her Wintergreen Community where she tended garden, tutored and mentored other residents. Mildred was also very interested in her family history and enjoyed tracing her roots.
Mildred is survived by her; son, Joel (Chris) of Stillwater, MN., daughters, Melanie (Frank) Yager of Fairmont, MN and Valerie (John) Peterson of Houlton, WI; sisters, Marion (Bob) McMillin of Redmond, Oregon and Grace Newsum of Summerfield, Florida; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Emma (Lindall) LePage, husband, Fred Johnson, brother, Donald LePage and sister, Ariel Setter.
Celebration of life for Mildred Johnson will be held on Saturday, February 12th, 2011 at Bethel Lutheran Church, downtown Hudson at 1pm. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to services at the church as well as on Friday from 4-8pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – Hudson. The family asks that any memorials be given to Bethel Lutheran Church in her name.
