Mona Vande Berg

Mona Johnston Vande Berg; Loving wife, supportive mother, caring friend. Age 86 of Baldwin, WI died January 14, 2015. Mona was born February 22, 1928 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to Gilbert S. and Margaret Steeves Johnston. She grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated from Washburn High School. While attending Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Mona met her husband, Roy, on the train traveling from Minneapolis to Appleton. They were married June 15, 1949 in Minneapolis and Mona began her 66 year residence in Baldwin. During the years she spent raising her family, Mona was a dedicated volunteer. Besides Cub Scout Den Mother and Brownie leader, Mona was a past president and longtime member of the Hospital Guild, sat on the Cemetery Board, volunteered at the library and served as an elected member of the Baldwin-Woodville School Board. She enjoyed golf, reading and had a flair for home decorating. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Mona was predeceased by her parents, brother, Robert Johnston, and her husband, Roy A. Vande Berg. Mona is survived by her three children: Anne (Will) Coultas of Mequon, Wisconsin; Joan Kidd of Hudson, Wisconsin; Tom (Kathy) Vande Berg of Baldwin. There are 7 surviving Grandchildren: Ben (Megan), Andy & Sam Coultas; Molly and Peter (Seonyoung) Timmerman: Sarah (Darrin) Soderberg and Matt (Nicole) Vande Berg. She is further survived by 8 Great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Jean Burke, sister-in-law, Ellen Blom and her husband, Jack. Services at 3:00PM Saturday, January 17th at the First United Presbyterian Church, 1650 8th Ave in Baldwin, WI. There will be no visitation, rather a gathering immediately following the service at church. Memorials preferred to Baldwin Public Library in Mona’s name.
