Patrick Michael McLaughlin, formerly a beloved member of the Ellsworth community, now a resident of Rapid City, SD, passed away at his home in Chippewa Falls, WI on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born to Gerald and Jeannette (Jenister) McLaughlin on January 9, 1946. Patrick attended Harding Catholic High School in St. Paul, MN, and later pursued his passion for mortuary science, graduating from the University of Minnesota. He married Barb McKenna in 1967 and had 2 children, Patricia and John. They were later divorced.
Patrick’s dedication to his craft led him to become the proprietor of the Winberg-McLaughlin Funeral Homes in Ellsworth & Prescott for many years until his retirement in the late 1990s. On June 20, 2001, he married the love of his life, Edith Decise, in Rapid City, South Dakota.
In his early years, Patrick enjoyed his time on Cedar Lake in New Richmond, WI, training dogs, and dog sled racing down Ellsworth’s Main St. He also earned his pilot’s license.
An avid outdoorsman, Patrick found solace in woodworking and crafting furniture. He cherished his time spent hunting, fishing, and embarking on adventures, including six memorable trips to Africa. Patrick was a motorcycle enthusiast, attending the Sturgis bike rally multiple times, and he found joy in exploring the open road. His wanderlust took him to destinations far and wide, from cruising the Caribbean to traversing the Arctic Circle.
Patrick’s greatest joy came from nurturing his relationships with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to Edith and a loving father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren.
Patrick is survived by his wife Edith; children: Patricia (Eric) Danielson, Heath (Holly) Williams, Haley (Christopher) Seffens, and Yves Decise-McLaughlin; grandchildren: Samantha (Clint) Segarra, Bryce (Megan) Stezka, Heather (Josiah) Snyder, Kellan McLaughlin, Edison, Everett and Emsley Seffens; 7 great-grandchildren; his sisters: Peggy Coe, Pam (Charlie) Bush, and Becky (Steve) Spence; many nieces and nephews; and his longtime friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John McLaughlin; stepdaughter, Heather Aichele; granddaughter, Ocean Decise; and brother-in-law, Doc Coe.
