Patrick Walsh

Patrick John Walsh, age 72, of Somerset, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at his residence following a stoic and grace filled battle with cancer.

Patrick was born on March 17, 1938 in Blue River, Wisconsin; the son of John and Mary Agnes (Gorman) Walsh. He was raised in Hammond where he graduated from Hammond High School. Patrick enlisted in the armed forces and proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea following the Korean War. On May 5, 1962, he was united in marriage to Kathleen “Kay” Vanda at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond. He furthered his schooling at Lakewood Community College in Mahtomedi.

For 30 years, Pat was a dedicated and proud employee of the Ford Motor Company in the Twin Cities. Pat didn’t stop working when he punched out at work. Matter of fact, that’s when he really brainstormed and worked. He was entrepreneurial in spirit. He was self-employed in sales/ marketing promoting and selling products ranging from health supplements to gas additives. His sense of self-motivational strategies, working with, and helping people drove Pat to explore these types of ventures in life. He thoroughly enjoyed repairing cars in his garage. Patrick was a handy man working with tools to remodel and maintain his home and, also, proudly helping build and maintain the homes of his daughters and sons.

He engaged in the stewardship of others, specifically helping children experience a better life. Over the years, he also enjoyed fishing and golfing. Most evident, Pat enjoyed a lifetime of dancing at all types of celebrations and dance venues in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

His greatest accomplishment was that of husband, dad, and grandpa. Patrick lived and harvested the fruit of his dream having raised a family embodied in love and togetherness regardless the circumstances. Pat has been a member of St. Anne’s Knights Of Columbus, former Somerset School Board member, 4H leader, Somerset American Legion Post, and the United Auto workers local 879. In finality, Dad was blessed with a heart that acknowledged Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior taking him home to eternal life.
