Percy Gunderson

Percy G. Gunderson, 89, of Ellsworth, WI died peacefully February 24th, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Percy was born in Superior, WI to Lawrence and Hilda Gunderson on December 7, 1930. He married Betty Kirkegaard on Nov. 29 1947 in Rock Rapids, IA. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in Dec 1947 and was stationed at Hawthorne, NV. After his service he and Betty and their growing family moved to Sioux Falls, SD and he began a career at Cenex. They moved to Chippewa Falls, WI. Newport, MN and eventually settled in Ellsworth, WI staying with Cenex until his retirement. After retirement he received his real estate license and he and Betty started two companies GDS and Gerann.

He and Betty enjoyed travelling the US selling ceramics at craft shows, snowmobiling and visiting their family.

Percy hunted and fished from a young age, and shared his love of the outdoors with family during camping trips and hunting and fishing expeditions. Later in life, he turned his shooting skills to sporting clays winning various state and local competitions. He especially enjoyed the sport when shooting with son Larry, his grandsons and eventually great– grandsons.

Percy was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Beldenville, WI since 1960. He faithfully served the congregation in various board positions through his membership time.

Percy is survived by 5 children, Larry (Ramona) Gunderson, Lake Preston, SD; Cathy (Lyle Hovda) Gunderson, River Falls, WI; Nancy (Paul Drobny) Gunderson, River Falls, WI; Randy (Lynn) Gunderson, Ellsworth, WI; Terry’s wife Jean Gunderson, Strum, WI; Wendy (Roy) Cook, Spring Valley, WI; 17 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

Percy was preceded in death by his wife Betty and son Terry, two sisters and one brother.

His unconditional love for his family and his unwavering faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is his legacy to all.

Funeral Services for Percy Gunderson will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 29th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Beldenville WI. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial with military honors will take place in the church cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home in Ellsworth WI. 715-273-4421
