Pierre Paul Haustein, age 75, formerly of Red Cedar Canyon in Hudson, passed away November 16, 2014 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond after a hard fought cancer battle.

Pierre was born January 29, 1939 in Zwickau Germany; the son of Curt Hans and Hannah Erika Franziska Lemmé Haustein. Pierre worked in the Hotel and Travel Industry for most of his life. He was a very caring father and a man of great faith. Pierre was kind, loving, and had a gentle heart. He was a great listener, always giving others his undivided attention. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo. His gregarious spirit delighted him in traveling and he was fluent in multiple languages. Some of his fondest travels were to Germany, Washington State and the Island of Tonga.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for the excellent and compassionate care Pierre received from the entire staff at St. Croix Hospice. Special thanks also to Jennifer Larson, Care Manager.

Pierre will remain in the hearts of his son, André Haustein; daughter, Nicole (Christopher) Rhoades; former wife and friend, Sandra Haustein; grandson, Nathaniel; sister, Rosemaria Breimaier of Germany; many other relatives in Germany; and friends near and far. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held 1:00 – 2:00 PM, with a 2:00 PM Memorial Service Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson.
