Raymond M. “Ray” Mahoney

Raymond Michael “Ray” Mahoney, age 80 of Woodville WI and formerly of Glenwood City WI, died on Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010 at the Park View Home in Woodville.

Ray was born September 5, 1929 in Racine WI to parents William and Ceil (Wilk) Mahoney. Ray moved with his family to a farm in the Glenwood City area. His mother died when he was a boy. Ray would stay with aunts in St. Paul where he would attend Cretin High School and graduate with the Class of 1947. Ray would then return to the farm to work alongside his dad on weekends and throughout the summer. While at a dance, Ray would meet the true love of his life, Marie Celeste Delage. After their courtship, the couple would be united in marriage on October 18, 1952 during a ceremony at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Glenwood City. This union in marriage would be blessed with four children. After high school, Ray lived and worked on the family farm, where he and Marie raised their children. When he wasn’t working, Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and was a founding member of the Irish Ridge Hunt Club. He was a life long Minnesota Vikings fan. He enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing cards with “the Group”. Using his handyman talents he could fix most anything. Ray was an avid golfer. He was involved in the development and construction of the Glen Hills Golf Course, and served as the president of the Glen Hills Golf Club from 1974-1976. Ray was also proud of his “hole-in-one” he scored on hole #2 (currently hole #7) on September 15, 1985. Ray and Marie also loved to travel, spending time in Europe, Hawaii, and the southern states. Ray was a life long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He earned Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus – St. John’s Council #4954 where he served as Grand Knight. After retiring from farming, Ray spent nearly twelve years as a real estate agent for Century 21 in the Baldwin area. Ray worked hard to instill strong family values in the lives of his children, and in return, he received his greatest enjoyment from the love of his family.

Ray will be missed dearly by his wife of 57 years, Marie; his children, Brian (Debbie) Mahoney, Barry (Mary) Mahoney, Ann (Don) Berends, and Tim (Cindy) Mahoney; grandchildren, Jillian (Chris) Van Someren, Jenny (Mike) Francis, Jared Mahoney, Maria (Bill) Halbach, Megan Mahoney, Breanne (Matthew) Bazille, William Mahoney, Richard Berends, Valori Berends, and Katie Mahoney; great-grandchildren, Logan, Tessa, Kayla, Bryn, Jackson, Lucas, Lana, Olivia, and Emma; sister, Benita (Ben) Rauen, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ceil Mahoney; and sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Clyde O’Keefe.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Ray Mahoney will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 757 First Street, Glenwood City WI, with Father William Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church, and also from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday, June 25, 2010 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street, Baldwin WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family. Services have been entrusted to the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory of Baldwin WI. 715-684-3434
