Richard Evjen

Richard Menard Evjen passed away peacefully on June 29, 2018 at the age of 85 years and 10 months.

Richard was born August 11, 1932 in Baldwin, WI, the son of Menard and Viola Evjen. Richard was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Dahl at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He carried his Christian Faith and his love of God with him throughout his entire life. He uplifted and helped many people and made friends wherever he traveled.

Richard grew up in Baldwin and graduated from Baldwin High School with honors. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with distinction from the School of Architecture and Engineering. He won many National Design Awards for his work from Maine to California and many places in between. Richard designed the windmill in Windmill Park from authentic Dutch plans. Despite traveling the country, Richard loved his little home town of Baldwin and told people far and wide of his wonderful experiences growing up there.

Richard loved the outdoors and all of God’s creations, as did the rest of his family. He designed and built a cabin near Hayward with son, Patrick’s help, where all the family loved to spend their summers swimming, water skiing, scuba diving and fishing. Fishing and hunting were an important part of his life. It was due to the love of fishing that he was introduced to his wife to be. The two of them have fished from Florida to the Artic and many lakes and rivers in between, along with 50 plus years in Canada. He was also an avid hunter of moose, antelope, and deer.

On June 16, 66 years ago, Richard was united in marriage to Betty Tilton at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Baldwin with Rev. Dahl officiating. To this union three children were born; Patrick Richard Evjen of Hudson, Cheri Lynn of New Richmond and Denise Michele of Indian Land, South Carolina; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Richard will remain in the hearts of his wife, Betty of 66 years; three children, Patrick (Jan) Evjen, Cheri Evjen and her husband, Kerry Kittel, Denise (Dick) Harris; six grandchildren, Eric, Shannon and Tara Evjen, Heather Evjen-Kittel Zehner, Alex Evjen-Kittel, and Jonathan Harris; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Menard and Viola Evjen; aunt, Lorraine Tremelling; and great-granddaughter, Erica Kittel.
