Richard Lawrence Hurtgen, age 81, of Baldwin, WI, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2016 at Regions Hospital.

Richard was born on October 3, 1934 to Albert and Sarah (Sabby) Hurtgen in Baldwin, WI. He was baptized and confirmed at the Centerville United Methodist church, attended the New Centerville grade school, and graduated from Baldwin High School.

On November 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Audrey Zillmer at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Woodville. Their marriage would be blessed with three children: Julie, Lisa, and Todd. After Audrey’s passing in 2003, he remarried Sallie Dull on December 14, 2008.

Richard worked at Zillmann’s Garage performing auto service, before working as a truck driver at the Heebink Lumber Yard, retiring after over 30 years of dedicated service. Outside of work, Richard enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, dancing, playing cards, and was a talented woodworker. Above everything, he especially cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Julie (Ed) Swenson of River Falls, WI and Lisa Roatch (Mark Smith) of River Falls, WI; daughter-in-law, Brenda (Richard) Cronk of Baldwin, WI; grandchildren: Courtney Swenson, Brian (Whitney) Swenson, Serena Swenson, Dustin Roatch, Jena (Jerry Kaiser) Carey, and Krista Cronk; great-grandchildren, Madison Carey and Sophia Swenson; sisters: Margaret, Ellen, Edna (Chic), and Ina Mae; brother-in-law, Carroll Schneider; sister-in-law, Judy Hurtgen; Sallie’s extended family; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 46 years, Audrey; son, Todd Hurtgen; second wife, Sallie; brothers, Ervin and Clinton Hurtgen; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schneider, Dee Hurtgen, and Carol Zillmer.

A Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2526 80th Ave., Woodville, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Interment at the church cemetery.
