Richard Korfhage

Richard Austin “Dick” Korfhage, age 85 of Prescott WI and formerly of White Bear Lake MN, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Preferred Senior Living in Ellsworth, WI. Dick was born August 23, 1932 in Grafton ND to parents Harold and Alma (Tverberg) Korfhage. Dick graduated from East Grand Forks High School and furthered his education at the University of North Dakota. He was united in marriage on July 21, 1962 to Gayle A. Joachim. Their union in marriage was blessed with two children, Scott and Wendy, and over 54 years of love and devotion until Gayle’s passing in May of 2017.

Dick worked for over 30 years as an insurance sales agent for State Farm Insurance in the White Bear Lake area. Dick learned to fly while still in high school, enrolled in the ROTC while attending UND, and then served as a pilot in the Air Force. Dick also did radio broadcasting, modeling, commercial acting, voice over work and served as a weekend anchor and game show host with KSTP TV in the 1960s. Dick had a mind for machines and how things run. He owned motorcycles, sprint car race cars which he converted into street rods and several airplanes over the years. He will be missed by his family and grandchildren, and the many friends made over the years.

Dick is survived by his son, Scott (Joan) Korfhage of Prescott WI; his daughter, Wendy Korfhage of Rice, MN; his grandchildren, Lauran and Eric Korfhage; his siblings, Helen (Art) Wardner of Tustin, CA and Marlin (Marlene) Korfhage of Palo Alto, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle; his parents; and brother, Donald Korfhage.

To honor Richard Korfhage, a Gathering of Family & Friends will be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Old Ptacek’s Event Center, 1449 Orrin Road in Prescott WI.
Dick will be buried along with his wife Gayle, at Ft Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors. Burial will take place at 1:30pm on Friday April 20th at Ft Snelling National Cemetery. Gather at Assembly Area #4, ten minutes prior.
