Richard Herbert Lerch, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2022, with his loving partner Kathy Peterson by his side. Richard was born to Herbert and Arletta Lerch on February 27, 1946, in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Richard loved being outdoors. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting in the woods with his faithful dog. Fishing adventures with his sons were high on his list as days well spent. When he met Kathy, he immediately shared his love of fishing with her. They loved spending a peaceful day on a nearby lake, catching just enough panfish for a delicious dinner. Fishing trips to Canada were a highlight for both of them. Nothing beat a fresh shore lunch! Richard and Kathy hated cold weather, so spending winters in Florida became the norm. In 2019 they made their winter home in Bonita Springs. Golfing, bocce ball, times at the beach, and spending time with family and friends filled their days. Richard looked forward to spending a week each summer with his son Mark’s family at a Wisconsin cabin. Playing games, fishing, lively conversation, and laughter were enjoyed by all. He loved his grandsons, and sharing special occasions with them was a top priority. Travel was another love Richard and Kathy shared. Trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Scotland, for a niece’s wedding and an Eastern European tour, were just a few of their numerous adventures. Richard was an avid collector of antiques, sports cards, comic books, coins, and most recently, records. He loved to buy low and sell high. EBay was his friend.
Richard was a gentle man that lived life to the fullest. He had a faith that guided him through good times and helped in the rough times. Richard lived a life to be proud of. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Richard will forever remain in the hearts of the love of his life Kathy Peterson; children Mark (Joleen) Lerch; Scott (Jamie Rogan-Lerch) Lerch, Brent Lerch, and Alicia Lerch; grandchildren Alex, Austin, and Seth Lerch; his brother Dennis (Marge) Lerch; and his beloved puppy Rosie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Arletta Lerch.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, Wisconsin. The service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a visitation two hours prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. The family would like to give a special thank you to Adoray Hospice for all of their care and dignity they gave Richard.
