Richard “Rick” D. Engels, age 66 of Lakeland, Minnesota, formerly of Inver Grove Heights, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Rick was born July 29, 1947 in St. Paul, Minnesota to parents Donald and Irene (Karlsrud) Engels. He went to school in Inver Grove Heights, and graduated from Simley High School in 1965. Rick worked as a technician for the North Star Steel Company.

Rick was united in marriage to Linda Morgan on April 4, 1981. Together they raised three girls, Belinda, Brenda and Sara. Beyond his family, Rick loved to work on cars, especially his 1935 Ford 3-Window Coupe and 1953 Chevy Pickup Truck, both he meticulously restored. Rick also liked motorcycles, rock ’n’ roll music, furniture restoration and woodworking. He was always willing to assist others with various projects. It was important to him that everyone was having fun. Rick also had a deep appreciation for animals, birds and nature.

Rick is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda; daughters, Belinda (John) Trombley, Brenda Gregor, and Sara (Dushyant) Saran; 3 grandchildren, Catherine, Logan and Lydia; mother, Irene Devendorf; siblings, Connie (Bill) Long and Eric (Donna) Engels; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Engels.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 South 11th Street, Hudson, WI. Visitation will be a half hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials Preferred.
