Robert E. Dodd

Robert Eugene Dodd passed away on June 8, 2021. He was born on June 21, 1936 in Perry, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Myles and father, Cy Oscars.

A lifelong aviator, Robert began taking flight during his teenage years in the 1950’s. Determined to support his family, he always worked 2 to 3 jobs at a time until 1980. He was a janitor, a boiler supervisor, a flight instructor at the St. Paul Airport and finally a successful corporate pilot. His passion for flight was recognized by many of us through his amazing and sometimes daring stories of flying and world travel. Paving the way for future black aviators, he became the Corporate Flight Department Director for Burlington Northern Railroad. Until he retired in 1995, he made friends with the national and international figures he flew. Desmond Tutu & Barbara Jordan were the two he remembered fondly.

He was a passionate man of medium stature but a giant in the eyes of his children. Showing us that there are no obstacles in life that cannot be conquered with hard work and dedication.

He is remembered today by his family. Wives: Rosalie Kaiser Dodd (former) and Katherine Olson (current). His children: Robert Jr., Carolyn, Debora, Gregory, Michael, Lisa, Romee’, Mujahid, and Andrew. Plus, his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

We will keep his memories alive through the generations and hope that when you hear a plane overhead you take a moment to help us remember him as well.
