Timbers, Robert J. “Bob” age 87, of Hudson, WI, formerly of Port Edwards, WI passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, July 22, 2018. He was born on May 11, 1931 to Leo and Frances (Linehan) Timbers. The family resided in Mauston, WI where he attended school.

Bob’s kindness, wisdom, inspiration, and sense of humor will be missed beyond words. He could find goodness in everyone, had a constant curiosity about others, and a passion for learning. Throughout his life he was a living example of generosity, unconditional love, and respect for all. In one of his last conversations he was asked by his granddaughter what were his words of wisdom, and he replied, “Kindness. All the world needs is more kindness.”

He began his long and distinguished career in 1950 with the WI Department of Transportation (DOT) at the Wisconsin Rapids office and retired as a Real Estate Supervisor in 1989. During his career with the DOT he was involved in numerous major highway improvement projects including WI State Highway 29. In 1993 he formed the Timbers Land Acquisition business where he continued his passion for his work and was involved in many highway, airport, electric transmission corridor, and municipality projects throughout the state. He was an active member and officer of the International Right Away Association. He was a 60 year member of the Knights of Columbus of the Monsignor Reding 4th Degree Assembly of Wisconsin Rapids. He was a member of the Port Edwards WI and Hudson WI Lions Clubs, receiving the Knight of Sight Fellowship Award in May. He served on the South Wood County United Way Board of Directors and the Port Edwards Educational Foundation.

In May of 2018, Bob and his wife celebrated 65 years of marriage. During their many years together they thoroughly enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, entertaining friends,, and traveling extensively. He especially loved his trips to Ireland, annual fishing excursions to Canada with his son, Tim, grandson, Merrick and numerous friends as well as family fall vacations in Door County. The family will especially miss him on Christmas Eve when he dressed up each year and became Santa.
