Robert Peter Porter Jr., age 91 of Afton, MN passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024 at Christian Community Home with his wife by his side. Bob was born on February 6, 1933 to parents Robert and Dorothy (Dodson) Porter. He graduated from Gonzaga High School in Spokane, WA and went on to further his education at Menlo College. He also served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve. Bob worked as a troubleshooter for Control Data for many years before his retirement. Robert married Adrien House on September 21, 1974 and together raised their blended family.

A beloved husband, dad, grandpa and friend, Robert was a man of many passions that brought him great joy throughout his life. His love for adventure and exploration led him on countless motorcycle journeys across the country alongside his wife, Adrien.

Robert was a true craftsman and creative spirit, finding solace in tinkering with electronics, building intricate model railroads, and indulging in his love for cars and ice racing. His enthusiasm and skill for each hobby were evident to all who knew him, leaving a lasting impact on those who shared in his interests and experiences.

He will be missed greatly by his wife Adrien; children Robert Porter, Scott Porter, Kristin Essay, Charles Compton, David Compton, and Christine Porter; grandchildren Dugan Doyle, Tucker Doyle, Hanna Compton, Anna Essay, Elijah Essay, and Cale Compton, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Dorothy, and brother Richard Porter.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI from 3-5 PM. Memorials are preferred to Christian Community Home.

  1. Adrian, we just learned of Bob’s passing and are so sorry to hear that. I have very fond memories of working with Bob at Lynn Rose Fashions. He was very skilled at many things and always so helpful and kind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at your great loss.
