Robin LeRoy Berg, Sr., longtime resident of Hudson, WI, went to join his Lord and Savior on January 4th, 2023.
Born in Minneapolis, MN on December 13th, 1938, he was the son of Lloyd Berg and Erma Baker. Robin and MaryAnn “Mickey” were united in marriage on November 3, 1960, which lasted over 54 years and were blessed with three children.
Robin graduated high school in 1956, attended the University of Minnesota where in 1961 he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and in 1993 he earned a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.
Robin’s engineering career started at Boeing in Seattle, WA. Later he then took engineering jobs in Texas and Georgia before moving back to Minnesota in 1967, where he worked for Multiclean earning his first patent. In 1974 Robin joined the Xerxes Corporation where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 2004 as Senior Vice-President. Upon retirement Robin continued as an Engineering Consultant.
In his work career, Robin was involved in many projects and had multiple accomplishments. He was a Composites Engineer in fields of large structural products such as, double wall tanks, aircraft, barges, and trains. He designed material and structure for double wall fuel tanks. His favorite composite aircraft structures were the first carbon-epoxy spoiler and aileron support arm. The ocean barge covers he worked on were probably the biggest composites up to that time. He was involved with using fiberglass for lighter weight river barge covers plus an arch design that allowed more product to be shipped, as well as, added doors for easier and safer loading that totally revolutionized the river grain shipping systems. Robin also participated in projects with train covers and waste treatment products. He is listed on over 36 patents.
Outside of work Robin enjoyed being involved with church activities such as, being a co-founder of United Teens Encounter Christ (United TEC), being a Ruling Elder for the First Presbyterian Church, participating in many church committees, teaching Sunday School, and attending Men’s Prayer Groups. He thoroughly enjoyed being a Gideon and handing out bibles to anyone. He took pride in having bibles in different languages and for specialties such as nursing. He loved to take “road trips” across the country – most recently driving himself from CA to CT just three months ago! He also loved international travel – especially if it involved delivering bibles. Robin shared a love of wildlife, dogs, and horses with his family. He loved being a Pee Paw and held a special place in his heart for each of his grandchildren. Robin’s recent passion was researching and creating a “Timeline of Man” chart which is Included in the book he authored which is dedicated to all those who want to know more about how to love God and each other forever and ever.
Robin is survived by his children Robin, Jr (Julie) Berg, Timothy (Rebecca) Berg and Stefanie (Greg) Rakoczy, his grandchildren Caleb and Elijah Berg, and Valerie and Bridget Rakoczy, his sisters Margaret “Meg” (Jim) McChesney, Janet Hanson, Sharon (Joe) Comerford and Diane Berg and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Robin was always a very kind and interesting person to talk to. I enjoyed visiting with him and Micky at The Lutheran Home and Church. One time he analyzed my handwriting and I never met anyone else that could do that. My condolences to the family and friends of Robin🙏🏼
