Obituary for Roger W. Jewell
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger William Jewell, who passed peacefully on May 20, 2024, in the loving arms of his wife Carolyn, in Lakeland, MN.
Roger was born to Paul and Donna (Smith) Jewell on September 1, 1937, on the family farm in Eastern Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He began his education at Joy School District 55 and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School. Following his graduation, Roger enlisted in the Air Force, where he served honorably for four years as a telephone communication technician.
After his military service, Roger worked for the Rapid City newspaper and established his own window washing business in Rapid City, South Dakota. Eventually, he returned to Minnesota, where he worked as a pressman for the St. Paul Pioneer Press until his retirement.
Roger’s love for his family was profound and unwavering. His wife Carolyn (Lofstrom), whom he was married to for 44 years, was the love of his life and his steadfast companion. Together, they built a life filled with love, respect, and mutual support. Roger was a devoted father to his children, Tim (Cathy) Jewell, Terry (Sarah) Jewell, Todd (Vicki) Jewell, Tonya Jewell, and Christian (Darci) Jewell. He took great pride in their achievements and was always there to offer guidance, wisdom, and a listening ear.
Roger’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was attending their school events, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company. His playful spirit and genuine interest in their lives created a bond that will be fondly remembered by each of them.
Roger is also survived by his brother Murel (Cheryl) Jewell and sisters, Valera (Arlen) Turnquist and Clarice (Phil) Holmquist, with whom he shared a close and loving relationship. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Donna, brothers Calvin and Dwight, sister Lois, and son David.
Roger’s faith and love for Jesus were the cornerstones of his life. His unwavering devotion to his Savior guided him in his roles as a husband, father, Papa, and friend. He drew strength, wisdom, and compassion from his relationship with Jesus, striving always to live in a way that honored the Lord. His deep love for Jesus was reflected in his generous spirit, his kindness to everyone he met, and his willingness to always lend a helping hand.
Roger’s commitment to his faith and Savior was at the very center of who he was. His life was a testament to his faith, offering a powerful example of what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Roger’s faith was a beacon of light to all who knew him, providing comfort and inspiration.
As we celebrate his life, we take comfort in knowing that Roger is now at peace, rejoicing in the presence of our Savior. We are grateful for the profound impact he had on our lives and for the eternal hope he instilled in us through his love for Jesus. He will be deeply missed, but we find peace in the promise of a heavenly reunion.
Our family wants to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and medical staff of St. Croix Hospice and CareAparent for their care and compassion during Roger’s time in hospice.
Roger’s Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, at Faith Community Church in Hudson, Wisconsin. Visitation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with the service starting at 1:00 p.m. Light refreshment to be served after the service.
