Rose Agnes Halverson

Rose Agnes Halverson, age 95, of Baldwin passed away at Baldwin Area Medical Center surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 8, 2011.

Rose was born July 17, 1916 to Joseph and Agnes Mielke in Emerald Township where she was raised and attended school. She graduated from Glenwood City High School and attended UW-River Falls (formerly River Falls State Teachers College) where she earned a two-year teaching certificate. She taught grade school at the Brookville and Oakdale Grade Schools until her marriage to Emmet Halverson on May 28, 1941. She and Emmet bought a farm in Emerald where they raised thirteen children. They farmed there until their retirement in 1977. They then moved to Baldwin where Rose has since resided. She was a proud housewife and mother, who loved to garden, preserve her abundant produce, bake and sew, and most of all take each and every moment to teach her children and share her unfaltering faith, wisdom, and trust in God. She will be fondly remembered by her children as one who never lost sight of right and wrong and the way to live a good life.

She is survived by her: children, Michael (Marilyn) Halverson of St. Paul, MN, John (Arlene) Halverson of St. Paul, Ken (Alice) Halverson of Monticello, MN, Kay (Fred) Magadance of Eau Claire, WI, Keith Halverson of Buda, TX, Sue Papenfuss of La Crosse, WI, Pat (Dave) Kovacs of St. Paul, MN, Martina Halverson of Baldwin – and with whom Rose lived, Dan Halverson of Houston, TX, and Terri Halverson of Bayport, MN. She is further survived by: 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Emmet on April 8, 1980, daughter Karen Halverson, twin sons Jim and Jerry Halverson, brother Frank, and sisters Ann and Tilly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 12, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1265 Ridgeway Hammond, WI. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery. A visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to services at the church as well as from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, September 11, at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Baldwin, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials given will be donated to one of the charities that Rose often donated to. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Funeral Home.
