Roy Eldon “Satch” Austin, age 79 of Ellsworth, passed away April 9, 2018 at the Atrium Post Acute Care Center of Ellsworth. Roy was born July 8, 1938 in Red Wing, MN to Burleigh and Eva (Green) Austin. Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Geanna May Raechke on December 3, 1965. Their lives were blessed with four children: Roy, Dianna, Lance, and Lenny. Roy worked for SB Foot Tanning Company for many years, until his retirement in 2000. 

Roy appreciated the outdoors and the peacefulness of fishing, be it on open water or a frozen lake. He especially treasured his time with his family and friends. Roy was a member of the Red Wing American Legion, Leo C. Peterson Post. Roy also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Ellsworth Fire Department for many years. 

Roy will remain in the hearts of his loving wife of 52 years, Geanna; children, Roy (Glenda) Smith of Ellsworth, Dianna Smith (Dee Andrews) of St. Croix Falls, Lance (Jocelyn) Austin of Ellsworth, and Lenny (Rhonda) Austin of River Falls; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Tess) Austin and Pat (Gary) Hanson; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Austin; sisters, Donna Sebion and Betty Hawkenson; and infant brother, James Austin.

A Celebration of Roy’s Life will take place 1:00 PM Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Ellsworth American Legion, 139 South Oak St., followed by military honors. Following the service and military honors, a Gathering of Family and Friends will take place until 4:00 PM.
