Sheldon Nelson

Sheldon Avery Nelson, age 86 of Hudson, passed away May 11, 2022 at his home. Sheldon was born on April 15, 1936 in Knapp, WI to Arthur and Goldie (Ford) Nelson. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1954 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his service he returned home and was united in marriage to Barbara Bailey on May 16, 1964. The couple was blessed with two children, Ryan and Crystal, and the family made their home in Hudson. Sheldon began his career at Andersen Windows where he was employed for 8 years before taking a custodial engineer job with 3M. Sheldon retired from 3M in 1992 after 27 years of employment. In retirement, Sheldon and Barbara spent many years wintering down south in Gulf Shores, AL.

Sheldon was a kind and thoughtful man who relished spending time with his grandchildren, and always seemed to have a witty and hilarious comment to share. He was keenly aware of the weather and usually correct when he said it was going to rain. Sheldon loved fishing and spending time up north at his favorite fishing lake. He was fond of mowing the lawn, bowling, and in his younger days, playing golf. Sheldon enjoyed his many years of having coffee every morning with his friends at Target, and taking group trips to the casinos. He was entertained by watching sports on the television, but was truly only a fan of the Green Bay Packers.

Sheldon will remain in the hearts of his wife of almost 58 years, Barbara; children, Ryan (Janice) Nelson, and Crystal Nelson; grandchildren, Nick (Hannah), Hannah (Matthew) Goodrum, and Ryannah Nelson; brother, Jerome Nelson; sister-in-law, Elda Meyer; brother-in-law, Roger Bailey; nieces and nephews, Tammy (Gordy) Meyer, Tracey Nelson, Laurie (Mike) Rothbauer, Carey Meyer (Nick Larson) and her son Isiah; and many special cousins, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joel and Wayne Nelson; and sister-in-law, Tricia Bailey.

A memorial service to celebrate Sheldon’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Sheldon’s service will be livestreamed, follow this link to access the service: Sheldon Nelson Memorial Service Livestream
