Shirley Cari, age 91, of Hudson, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2020 at Christian Community Home in Hudson. Shirley was born on October 4, 1929 to parents Henry and Jessie (Brandsma) Benjamin. She grew up in Chicago, IL and graduated from Parker High School. She was united in marriage to Sam Cari and they were blessed with three children.

Before retiring to Hudson, Shirley had a long and fulfilling career at Brother Rice High School where her last position held was development director. Her greatest joy in life was being with people and making meaningful connections with others. She was most proud of being a mom, grandma and great grandma and will be greatly missed by her children Sam (Teresa) of Hudson and Susan (Scott) Larson of Burnsville; grandchildren Ryan (Camille), Daniel (Sondra), Katy (Jeremy), Sam Jr. (Erin), Kristin (Seth) and 18 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Sam; son Scott; grandson Brian and siblings Lynn Benjamin, Raymond Benjamin, Evelyn Gieffers, and Dorothy Shearer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson. Private Interment at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Brother Rice High School. https://www.brotherrice.org/ways-to-give/

    • Sorry to hear of Mrs. Cari’s passing. She was a wonderful person with a warm smile and kind heart. My mom and the Donahue family hold many cherished memories in our hearts of time spent together at football games, holidays and excursions on their boat. God bless.

      She so helped me through the loss of our son.
      With this Covid I was never allowed back in.

    • Saddened to hear of the loss of Shirley. Comforting prayers are being sent to bring you peace and all of the good memories. I will be celebrating with you online at her funeral. God bless you all.

    • Thinking of the Cari family and wishing you peace and comfort as you remember a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was so close to everyone. I feel blessed to have known both Shirley and Sam throughout the years. She will be missed and her memory will carry on through her family and legendary meatballs.
