Shirley Jane Spurgeon age 84 of Hudson, Wisconsin formerly of South Carolina died peacefully Friday May 16, 2014 with her loving husband at her side. Shirley was born on October 18, 1929, in Berlin, Wisconsin; the daughter of Dewey and Clara (Jordarski) Ellis. She was raised in Berlin attending Washington Jr. High before graduating from Berlin High School. She would marry her best friend and soul mate Gerald Spurgeon at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Berlin.

Although she worked a few jobs prior to being married, it was that of homemaker that was most rewarding. She loved tending to her family and spending time with them. She loved sewing, downhill skiing at Lake Tahoe, and taking a ‘World Tour’ cruise with Gerald. Nothing gave her more meaning than being that of wife, or being the matriarch to her children and grandchildren whom she dearly loved.

She will remain in the hearts of her husband of 65 years Gerald; children Jon (Jill) Spurgeon of Woodbury, MN, Susan Spurgeon of Waterloo, WI; grandchildren Alysa (Andy) Krueger, James Wagner, Kayla Hook, Jenna Spurgeon,; great grandchildren Brittni, Alexis, Tayllor, Aiden, Addison, and Colten. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant child, and sister Evelyn Schmoody.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Tuesday May 20th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin, WI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at church. Memorials preferred. Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
